Kaizer Chiefs get HUGE Themba Zwane signing boost?

There has been a development in Themba Zwane’s contract situation at Mamelodi Sundowns with Kaizer Chiefs reportedly lurking.

Chiefs are thought to be monitoring Zwane’s situation as his contract at Sundowns comes to an end soon.

Zwane has not played in 2025

The veteran playmaker suffered an achilles injury while on national duty last year with Bafana Bafana. Zwane has yet to play for Sundowns this year as a result. The team has not slowed down in his absence, despite his influence being visible when fit. In fact, Bafana have also been getting the job done without him.

That coupled with him being 35-years-old has since seen questions raised about his future at Sundowns. He is yet to play under new coach Miguel Cardoso who has spoken highly of him, however. After previous uncertainty, it was thought that Masandawana had already decided to extend the contract of Zwane. This was expected to be the window that Chiefs use to attack the situation.

Sundowns future back in limbo?

It was then thought that window has closed, but it may now be back open. According to FARPost, Sundowns want to see Zwane prove his fitness before committing to a new deal. This will be music to the ears of Chiefs who could see this as a glimmer of hope, should Cardoso decide to move forward with younger options.

“According to sources close to the situation, Sundowns are keen to see Zwane prove his continued value to the team after a lengthy layoff. The club’s management is believed to be prioritising his full recovery and a demonstration of his ability to maintain his high standards of play.” Wrote the publication.

No handouts

“The club (Sundowns) wants to see him (Zwane) back on the pitch and performing at his best before making any decisions. They want to ensure he’s fully recovered and can still contribute significantly.” Said the insider to the same publication.
