Kaizer Chiefs transfers: Basadien, Blom, Blind Faith

Today’s Kaizer Chiefs transfer news revolves around Orlando Pirates target Fawaaz Basadien, Njabulo Blom and a leap of faith.

Chiefs and Orlando Pirates battle it out for Basadien

28-year-old Fawaaz Basadien is one of the steadiest full-backs in South Africa. No wonder two of the big three clubs are taking a closer look.

“Chiefs interest was serious, but there was no agreement reached between the two clubs. Now it looks like Pirates are coming in strong for him. Don’t be surprised to see him join them when the season ends, but you never know in football because things change very quickly, and other clubs might come knocking as well,” a Citizen source added.

Blom to leave Kaizer Chiefs after flop loan spell

25-year-old midfielder Njabulo Blom was expected to make a big splash in 2024-2025. However, his return to the club on loan from the USA has been underwhelming. Nasreddine Nabi has mostly used him as a substitute and often out of position at right back.

MTN8 race isn’t looking good

Another trophyless season beckons, and the club even faces an uphill battle to qualify for next season’s MTN8. Chippa and Golden Arrows both pose a serious threat to their ambitions of a top-eight finish; Amakhosi have 30 points after 24 games. The Chilli Boys are just a point adrift and have two gams in hand, while Arrows are only two points behind Chiefs and they have three games in hand on the Glamour Boys. Chiefs can only pick up a maximum of 18 points in the remainder of the campaign. However, if we go by their average points per game (PPG tally) of 1.25 so far, they’ll only get 7.5 more points this season. Let’s be generous and call it 8. We believe that won’t be enough to secure a place in next season’s MTN8. An imminent trip to Chippa on Saturday 19 April could be make or break. However, we can see Amakhosi finishing as low as 10th in the division after 30 matches.

Where will Chiefs finish on the log this season?
