Kaizer Chiefs are monitoring 1.9m goal machine to solve the striker crisis for next season.
What we know is that Chiefs is looking for a suitable forward that will convert the majority of the chances that are being created by the team. So far they have been linked with numerous strikers outside of the Betway Premiership and their reported main target is Fiston Mayele at Pyramids FC.
Lakay another Chiefs option
Their most recent forward that they have been linked with has been Mayele’s former teammate Fagrie Lakay. He is currently playing for Ceramica Cleopatra FC on loan until the end of the season. Lakay, 27, has scored four goals and provided five assists in 23 games.
Whereas Mayele, 30, whose contract expires in June 2026, has scored 13 goals and provided two assists.
Galaxy forward proven choice
The latest forward that they have been monitoring is TS Galaxy striker, Dzenan Zajmovic. Zajmovic, 30, joined TS Galaxy on a free transfer after parting ways with Serbian side FK Radnik Surdulica, where he only played 11 games.
In the Premier Soccer League, the former Velez Mostar attacker has managed to register 12 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions. Just recently Zajmovic revealed his desire to join a title-contending team, signalling his ambition for a potential transfer.
In the current season, TS Galaxy have won nine matches in the league, drawn eight, and lost seven in 24 matches with Zajmovic leading the attack.
After proving to be one of the top attackers in the PSL, Zajmovic says he would be enticed by a transfer move to a team that challenges for the league title.
Move to Chiefs viable: Silverware?
“I think the chairman has proven a lot of times that he doesn’t stand in anyone’s way. You can see now with Samukelo Kabini’s move to Molde FK and Thato Khiba to Stellenbosch FC a few months ago,” Zajmović said, according to FARPost.
“Everybody wants to play for the title, and that’s the same case with me. I want to play for a title-winning team. So if I want to make a new big step, then it would have to be a club that plays for prizes.”
Zajmovic is the kind of forward that would thrive at Chiefs. This due to the kind of football that they currently play. He stands at 1.9m tall, can hold up play, make good movements in the behind but most importantly he puts his chances away. That is exactly what Amakhosi needs right now, a proven goal scorer.
But will they be fighting for trophies next season? Time will tell.
