Kaizer Chiefs have been handed a lifeline in their pursuit of Mamelodi Sundowns veteran Themba Zwane.
The Soweto giants, knowing Mshishi’s contract to be expiring in June, were monitoring the 35-year-old earlier in the year, but talks subsided after the Brazilians began negotiating his extension.
The latest reports suggest that talks have gone stagnant between Zwane and the reigning PSL champions, potentially opening the door for Kaizer Chiefs.
Sundowns apprehensive
Miguel Cardoso’s side, determined to cut their squad size in the offseason, are undecided about what to with their injured icon, suggesting his future in Tshwane to be hanging in the balance.
“Do you remember that the talks had started? Even after the injury they continued but at the moment they have stalled and it doesn’t look good,” a Siya source stated.
“They are in limbo though it doesn’t mean it’s over yet. It will depend on what goes on until the end of the season. But they wanted him to be part of the Club World Cup which happens as the contract comes to an end. It’s a tricky situation but his future at the club seems to be coming to an end as things stand now.”
A second source reaffirmed Zwane’s potential fiasco, declaring that, “It’s not like the club wants to throw him away. They could do it like Hlompho Kekana or Tiyani Mabunda while they bring in young players to take over from him.
“There are a number of youngsters from the DDC and other youth structures who the club want to introduce and with the downsizing of the squad in mind they would release experienced players and Mshishi could be one of them and that’s what could affect his contract talks.”
Should Kaizer Chiefs sign Zwane?
