Royal AM expelled, Sundowns suffer title blow as Bucs ‘celebrate’

Royal AM have been expelled from the PSL following the voting by the league’s Board of Governors (BoG) on Thursday.

Royal AM’s expulsion will have an impact on 10 teams that have already played and gained points against them.

Thwihli Thwahla played 11 league games and the last time they were in action was in December 2024 when they lost 3-1 to TS Galaxy.

Of the 11 games, Royal AM won one, lost five and drew the other five, and their expulsion means those points will be expunged.

As previously stated, Royal AM’s expulsion means NO club will AUTOMATICALLY be relegated, but a team that finishes 15th will still fight it out in the playoffs.

Secondly, the current campaign will finish with all the remaining 15 teams playing 28 games instead of the usual 30.

ROYAL AM’S IMPACT ON SUNDOWNS AND ORLANDO PIRATES

Mamelodi Sundowns took three points off Royal AM in October 2024 after beating them 2-1.

What it means is that those points will be expunged, leaving Sundowns on 55 points with 22 games instead of 58.

The Brazilians will now be nine points clear of second-placed Orlando Pirates who now have two games in hand against Golden Arrows.

Should Pirates win those two games against Arrows then gap between them and Sundowns will be reduced to just three points

And that will give Pirates and their fans a glimmer of hope in their attempt to dethrone Sundowns this season.

GREAT NEWS FOR BUCS BUT NOT FOR SUNDOWNS, ISN’T IT?
