Charl Schwartzel, the 2011 champion, signed for a 2-over par 74 and followed that up with a level-par 72 in Round 2 to make the cut on the number of Friday.
There was less good news for his two compatriots, however.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout could do no better than a 4-over par 76 in his opening 18 holes and followed that up with a second round 3-over par 75 for a total of 151, five shots outside the cut line.
Finally, Thirston Lawrence struggled to a 7-over par 79 in Round 1, and, although he improved to a 4-over par 76 in his second round, his total of 155 placed left in in a tie for 92nd in the 95-player field and nine shots off making the weekend.
Third round
Schwartzel will tee off at 17:10 (SSA time) in Round 3 on Saturday..
The top 50 and ties all made the halfway cut.
After Round 2, Johannesburg-born Justin Rose continues to lead the way on 8-under par, having signed for a superb 65 on Thursday and a 71 on Friday.
Rose leads by a shot from American Bryson DeChambeau and by two strokes from Canada’s Corey Conners and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy.
