Springbok Jordan Hendrikse is leading the race for nominations in three categories for the looming United Rugby Championship awards for the 2024-25 season.
As the Vodacom URC edges closer to crowning its champion, the winners of the URC Awards will be announced in the coming weeks.
The annual URC Awards recognise excellence both on and off the field, rewarding players, coaches, and clubs for their outstanding work throughout the season and for their contribution to the success of the league.
A total of 12 individual prizes are up for grabs, along with places in the end-of-season Elite XV; and so far seven South Africans, of which five are capped Springbok players.
They are Jordan Hendrikse, Siya Kolisi, Andre Esterhuizen, Warrick Gelant and RG Snyman, while uncapped Saffas are Francke Horn and Ethan Hooker.
But while his compatriots are each listed in just one category, Hendrikse leads the way as a contender across three categories.
SPRINGBOK STARS LEAD THE WAY IN URC AWARDS CATEGORIES
He ranks in the top 10 in the Playmaker Award category, alongside fellow Springbok colleagues Gelant (Stormers), Snyman (Leinster) and Esterhuizen (Sharks).
Having barely missed a minute for the Sharks and Lions respectively, Hendrikse and Horn are proving to be vital cogs in their sides’ machinery and therefore qualify for the Ironman Award.
Hendrikse is second overall in points kicked (93), with a superb 91.67% accuracy from the tee, which also puts him in contention for the Golden Boot Award.
In the Top Try-Scorer Award category, the South African representatives are Siya Kolisi with seven tries – the most by any forward this season – and Ethan Hooker with six tries, which have both added to
to the Sharks’ firepower throughout this campaign.
