Kaizer Chiefs tie down senior midfielder

Kaizer Chiefs have tied down senior midfielder Yusuf Maart after triggering an option they had on his initial contract.

Maart’s current deal was set to expire in June, and there were questions around whether or not Chiefs will keep him.

Several other teams in the PSL, including Maart’s former club Sekhukhune United, showed huge interest in the midfielder.

However, iDiski Times reports that Sekhukhune United were turned away as Chiefs made it clear that they are keeping their skipper beyond the current season.

Amakhosi had a two-year option on Maart’s contract, and they have activated one for now while an agreement was reached for another year.

Maart has been with Chiefs for almost three seasons now, and he has become the club’s leader on and off the pitch.

The 29-year-old midfielder was made captain two seasons ago despite often being criticised by Amakhosi fans.

He has featured 90 times for Chiefs since his arrival and has six goals and eight assists to his name.

KAIZER CHIEFS EXTEND MAART’S CONTRACT

“Sekhukhune made clear intent to lure Maart back to the club for the 2025/26 season, with his original three-year deal set to expire with Chiefs, and while the deal looked to be heading somewhere, Chiefs have now managed to secure him for the next two seasons,” reads part of the report.

“Sources at Sekhukhune have confirmed they were informed an option was taken to retain the midfielder, while an additional year on his contract was also agreed between the two parties.”
