RIP: Kaizer Chiefs legend passes away

Kaizer Chiefs and Vaal Professionals legend Simon ‘Bull’ Lehoko has passed away in Sharpeville.

The South African understands that Lehoko died on Thursday morning aged 74.

The ‘Bull’ had been struggling with illnesses due to his age over the past few years.

In October 2021, Chiefs donated a wheelchair to Lehoko, and it was delivered by former his team-mates.

At the time, Lehoko was unable to walk on his own as he had amputated his leg due to diabetes in 2016.

WHO WAS KAIZER CHIEFS LEGEND SIMON ‘BULL’ LEHOKO?

Lehoko is a Kaizer Chiefs and Vaal Professionals legend who played a centre-back all his professional career.

He started his career at his father’s club Real X20 in the late 1960s until he eventually joined Vaal Professionals in 1971.

Lehoko was a qualified teacher having obtained it from the Wilberforce Training College. He taught in Dobsonville, Soweto.

He juggled both teaching and football. He was at Vaal Professionals for seven years between 1971 and 1978.

After some impressive performances at Vaal Professionals, the ‘Bull’ caught the eye of Kaizer Chiefs.

He signed for Chiefs and he played there from 1978 until he decided to retire from football in 1985.

At the time, Lehoko was aged 34 and he could have gone on had it not been for a knee injury he suffered.

He was part of the Amakhosi team that won the quadruple in 1981 alongside the likes of Ryder Mofokeng.

Lehoko also played for South Africa during the dark days of apartheid in 1977 against Zimbabwe (then known as Rhodesia).

The South African would like to convey its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Simon ‘Bull’ Lehoko.
