Despite keeping his identity a secret for many years, X user Chris Excel has become an internet celebrity thanks to his troll-worthy account. The catfish personality is also widely known for using an unauthorised image of influencer Bianca Coster as his profile picture.
However, after almost five years of trending on the app, Chris has been threatened with legal action. He has since changed his profile picture.
X TROLL WARNED OF CRIMINAL CHARGES
Chris Excel is widely known for his controversial opinions when it comes to women, politics, and race. The X troll has often crossed the line with defamatory statements about everyone from Makhadzi to US President Donald Trump.
However, the catfish account has been warned that he could face criminal charges from influencer Biana Coster over unlawfully using her images.
Legal expert Ulrich Roux told eNCA: “This is a form of cyberbullying; it is an infringement of the Cyber Crimes Act, and it’s also a form of harassment. She is well within her rights to obtain interdictory relief against both X and Chris Excel.
He added of the secretive social media personality: “While that is easier said than done, as the identity of Chris Excel is unknown, one can obtain specialists or forensic specialists to obtain the IP addresses and locations from which he runs the account. Once that is done, one can obtain interdictory relief in the high court.”
WHO IS CHRIS EXCEL?
While there have been some rumours about Chris Excel’s possible identity, these are the facts.
He considers himself the “President of Black Twitter” [now X]
According to the unofficial official Twitter [now X] awards, Chris Excel was voted “President of Black Twitter” by South African tweeps in 2021.
In his “acceptance speech”, the influencer – who uses the handle @ChrisExcel102 – thanked his followers for the vote of confidence. He also promised to “stand up” for ordinary tweeps, regardless of their following.
He’s a self-confessed catfish
According to Chris Excel’s Twitter biography, he is the “only legal catfish” in Mzansi.
Chris Excel does not use his real name or a real photo on his Twitter account. If you’re wondering who the woman in his profile picture is, it’s influencer Bianca Coster.
The University of Johannesburg student claims she is aware that Chris Excel is using her picture but has tried “unsuccessfully” to report him to the site’s authorities.
He loves a good celebrity feud
Chris Excel has faced the biggest celebrities in Mzansi, including Bonang, Pearl Thusi, Cassper Nyovest, and AKA.
He’s also been blocked by X users around the world, including local celebrities and even politicians and preachers, like TD Jakes.
Trending for all the wrong reasons
With “fame” comes criticism, and while Chris Excel stands for the “underdog,” he’s also considered a cyberbully.
In 2022, Chris was condemned for “contributing” to the social media onslaught which allegedly led veteran actor Patrick Shai to take his own life.
