The first of the two Soweto Derbies between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates has sold out.
These two giants of South African football will face each other twice next month: the first derby is a Betway Premiership match, while the second takes place during the Nedbank Cup final.
The last encounter between the Buccaneers and Amakhosi was in March this year, which ended with a 1-0 victory for the Sea Robbers. Patrick ‘Tito’ Maswanganyi scored the only goal of that match from the penalty spot.
When is the first Soweto Derby taking place?
The first derby will be held on May 3 at the FNB Stadium, with Chiefs confirming that this match is sold out. The second derby will occur at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on May 10, as part of the Nedbank Cup final. This marks the first time both Chiefs and Pirates will meet in a final since 2014.
Amakhosi reached their first domestic final in six years by overcoming Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Pirates secured their spot by narrowly defeating Marumo Gallants 1-0, marking their sixth final under coach Jose Riveiro.
Who is likely to win the two Soweto Derby matches?
The Buccaneers have won the last four derbies, and many are betting on them to extend their winning streak to six. However, Chiefs are eager to end their decade-long wait for silverware, which could give them the motivation they need.
Tickets are still available for the Nedbank Cup which is another Soweto Derby.
Do you think Chiefs will win one of the derbies or will Pirates reign supreme?
