Kaizer Chiefs cemented their Nedbank Cup final spot following a dramatic triumph over Mamelodi Sundowns.
The visitors were 1-0 down until Wandile Duba converted in the 57th minute before – a later deemed offside – Ashley Du Preez’s tap-in sent fans into pandemonium.
The noise won’t stop until May 10, when they square up for their first final in six years and third Soweto derby at the Moses Madiba Stadium.
Transfer news
While a final berth will reinvigorate Kaizer Chiefs fans with optimism about the future ahead, it’s hard to forget their tumultuous season, often idling around the middle of the table.
The Soweto giants are set to lure more talent in the offseason, with Congolese international Fiston Mayele and Richards Bay defender Lwandile Mabuya at the top of their list.
Natal Rich Boyz chairman confirmed Kaizer Chiefs’ keenness, saying, “it is true that Chiefs have contacted us several times about Mabuya’s situation”.
Meanwhile, SoccerLaduma confirmed the Mayele aspirations, reporting that, “At the moment there is not one striker who the club could say is the one joining them.
“Yes, they are priotising Fiston Mayele but they don’t want to be caught off guard if things don’t work out with him and that’s why they are reigniting the interest in [Fagrie] Lakay.
“You remember they have been interested in him for some time now? They are just waiting for that chance to sign him. And this could be the right time to do so for the club.”
Another source confirmed the news, saying, “It is expected to go down to the wire as they are interested in two strikers of the same team. So, it will also be about the pricing from Pyramids and what Chiefs can afford to pay for them to get the striker they desire for next season. That’s the decision they will have to make.”
