Orlando Pirates and Jose Riveiro will part ways at the end of 2024-2025 after a glorious, trophy-laden spell. Which players stand to benefit?
Orlando Pirates players who could benefit from Jose Riveiro leaving
Miguel Timm
The former Marumo Gallants midfield schemer has struggled for game time. Makhehlene Makhaula and Thalente Mbatha have become the first-choice pairing in the centre of the park. Even Kabelo Dlamini, more of an attacking midfielder, has been trusted in that deeper role more often than 33-year-old Timm. Could the experienced midfield general get a second chance with a new manager at the helm? Perhaps it’ll depend on who that man is.
Karim Kimvuidi
The 22-year-old playmaker from DR Congo has been persistently linked with a loan exit so that he can get more minutes. However, with talent in abundance, a new boss might want to retain the former Maritzburg man.
Evidence Makgopa
Although Makgopa’s industry, pressing and work ethic see him start the occasional big game or cup finals, Tshegofatso Mabasa has become the first-choice striker in league games. Makgopa started Pirates’ 1-0 win in Algeria against MC Alger, so clearly he has the capability to thrive in knockout environments, but he’d love to be more involved in the bread and butter of the Betway Premiership.
Madiba hits the big time for Orlando Pirates
According to iDiski Times, Orlando Pirates proactively seek long-term replacements for Makhehlene Makhaula and Miguel Timm. 24-year-old Masindi Nemtajela is in focus. The Marumo Gallants man has featured 13 times this season and is seen as a natural successor to the aforementioned pair.
