Netizens slam Rebecca Malope for ‘performing’ at Bushiri’s church

Seasoned singer Rebecca Malope is trending after her clip performing at self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s church made rounds online.

The now-viral video was first shared online by popular blog MDN News on X, formerly Twitter.

Bushiri also shared a video of Malope performing at his church in Malawi on his Instagram account on Saturday, 19 April. He captioned the video: ‘Let love lead.’

However, little is known about when the video was taken, despite rumours suggesting otherwise.

Netizens were quick to blast the seasoned singer for performing at Bushiri’s church amid his legal woes back home.

Bushiri is embroiled in a string of allegations, including money laundering. The Malawian man of oath skipped the borders after he was granted bail in 2020 and is set to appear before the courts.

He is yet to be extradited to South Africa to stand trial.

MK PARTY SECRETARY-GENERAL PRAISED DURING ECG’S EASTER SERVICE

Rebecca Malope’s clip made rounds after the UMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) secretary general Floyd Shivambu’s clips during the Easter service flooded online.

He was one of the celebrated politicians who attended Bushiri’s Easter service, which has since become one of the biggest church events on Enlightened Christian Gathering’s (ECG) calendar.

During his service, Bushiri praised Shivambu and said he was one of the few principled leaders with a vision to unite all.

Prophet said, “One of the great and wonderful men I know who loves Africa and supports African affairs.”

Shivambu’s attendance undoubtedly made headlines, with South Africans blasting the politician for associating himself with Bushiri.

The MK Party has since responded with a press statement against the backlash.

“The MK Party wishes to place it on record that the trip undertaken by Mr Shivambu was not discussed or approved by the party’s leadership. We distance ourselves from this visit and reaffirm our respect for the rule of law,” the party said.
