In recent times, there have been some interesting developments when it comes to the Springboks’ frontrunners for the No 10 jersey in the 2025 season.
For one, Handre Pollard has made the big decision to return to the Bulls in the next few months, and he will be determined to fight for that first-choice flyhalf spot when it comes to the Springboks’ most high-profile Tests this year.
Interestingly his most fierce competition may well now come from Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who has begun to push to specialise at flyhalf in recent games for the Stormers where he has run the show at pivot. Just this past weekend he was simply sensational in what was an all-time top-tier hat-trick display against Connacht.
Jordan Hendrikse and Siya Masuku have been producing some solid rugby at the Sharks as well, and while they are probably a little further down the Springbok pecking order, they should be in the mix for some of the ‘easier’ Test matches.
Of course there is also Manie Libbok, who has been on the sidelines for an extended period at domestic level, but he should soon be back just in time to send out a timely reminder or two to the Springbok coaches.
Right now, though, it does seem likely to be a two-way shootout of sorts between Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Pollard for the No 10 jersey in big games, and that does make for a very appealing prospect.
