Pirates are one game away from the Champions League final
Pirates have kept clean sheets in seven of their last eight matches across all competitions. The only stain on that record was the Sundowns game, which they won 2-1 anyway. If anybody can breach this staunch defensive unit, however, it’s Kaizer Chiefs target Fiston Mayele. The Pyramids FC man has an exemplary record in the Champions League, with six goals in 10 outings this term. Overall, he’s scored 19 times in 34 appearances in Africa’s premier club competition. Pyramids vs Pirates in the semi-final second leg kicks off on Friday, 25 April at 20:00. It’s delicately poised after a 0-0 draw in the first encounter.
Another huge game for Orlando Pirates midfield general Makhaula
35-year-old midfield general Makhaula has made 19 league appearances this term and 38 across all competitions. We don’t need to tell you how important he is to the Pirates cause under Jose Riveiro. Not many players born in the 80s still have this level of stamina in their tanks, and he’ll need all of that in the second leg staged in Egypt on Friday, 25 April in Cairo.
New Mofokeng identified?
It seems ridiculous to be discussing the ‘next Mofokeng’ given that the original Mofokeng is still only 20 and not close to being the finished article. However, there is a name we should be watching closely.
“There is an exciting player who has been signed by Orlando Pirates, and soon people will be talking about him. His name is Rethabile Ramontoeli, and he plays as a winger and as an attacking midfielder. He is the next Relebohile Mofokeng, that one, I can promise you,” a source told Soccer Laduma.
