Kaizer Chiefs have longed for the talents of Sphephelo Sithole – but not anymore.
The Durban-born star has eighteen international caps to his name despite never featuring in the PSL, earning his call-up from Europe, where he his professional soccer career.
Currently playing for Portugal’s Gile Vicente, the midfielder has made a name for himself with his defensive plays and powering strides; Kaizer Chiefs tried to sign him in January, which will reportedly be the last time they attempt to sign the 26-year-old (for now).
“There are some decisions which the team is believed to be taking because of the players they already have,” SoccerLaduma explained.
“You see with Yaya (Sithole) there are about four players already in that position in Edson Castillo, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Samkelo Zwane, as well as Yusuf Maart if he will still be around.
“So, the club apparently feels that position will be overloaded so that’s why they are believed to be withdrawing from signing Yaya.”
Mayele wanted
Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele is high up on Kaizer Chiefs’ transfer list, reports SoccerLaduma.
“At the moment there is not one striker who the club could say is the one joining them.
“Yes, they are priotising Fiston Mayele but they don’t want to be caught off guard if things don’t work out with him and that’s why they are reigniting the interest in [Fagrie] Lakay.
“You remember they have been interested in him for some time now? They are just waiting for that chance to sign him. And this could be the right time to do so for the club.”
