World Cup-winning Springbok Deon Fourie underwent corrective knee surgery days after sustaining a broken tibia while on duty for the Stormers.
The veteran utility forward has been ruled out of action for several months after breaking his tibia in the Stormers’ United Rugby Championship game against Connacht at DHL Stadium this past weekend.
The 38-year-old loose forward came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute for the Stormers, but unfortunately he lasted less than a minute as he was seen limping off the field in the 63rd minute.
This latest injury setback sparked fears that it could be the beginning of the end of Fourie’s playing career, especially taking into consideration he turns 39 in September.
However, the Springbok seems undeterred by his current situation, as he took to social media to announce the extent of injury isn’t nearly as bad as initially feared and that he will be back in action sooner than expected.
Fourie also provided a timeline for his recovery and rehabilitation, and a set definitive date for his return.
“Surgery done and dusted. Big thumbs up from the recovery room,” the Springbok posted on his Instagram account.
“If everything goes well I’ll be back in 12 weeks [three months] doing what I love.
“Grateful for the incredible support around me and everyone’s messages.”
