Orlando Pirates’ African dream is over. Fiston Mayele’s brace propelled Pyramids FC into their first-ever CAF Champions League final, after a thrilling 3-2 second-leg encounter at Cairo’s 30 June Stadium.
The Congolese striker’s decisive goals secured a 3–2 aggregate victory for the Egyptian side.

Orlando Pirates’ Relebohile Mofokeng opened the scoring with a sweet volley. However, Pyramids’ Mostafa Fathy delivered a pinpoint cross to Fiston Mayele, who expertly controlled the ball and finished with composure, levelling the score at 1–1.
In the 52nd minute, Orlando Pirates winger Mohau Nkota unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box that beat Pyramids’ goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy, restoring Buccaneers‘ advantage at 2–1. Pyramids’ response was immediate. Substitute Ramadan Sobhi, introduced just minutes earlier, made an impact by heading in a cross from the right, equalising once again at 2–2.
With the match approaching its conclusion, Kaizer Chiefs target Fiston Mayele emerged as the hero. In the 84th minute, following a corner kick, the ball rebounded into his path, and he seized the opportunity, scoring his second goal of the match and securing a 3–2 victory for Pyramids.
The 30-year-old Congelse is not sitting on 15 goals and two assists in 32 games.
