Kaizer Chiefs still have plenty to play for, but they’re looking a little ragged at the back with a few huge games coming up.
When is Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates?
These sworn Soweto Derby rivals meet in the Betway Premiership on Saturday, 03 May at 15:00. They meet again the following Saturday, 10 May in the Nedbank Cup final. That match kicks off at the same time. Chiefs face a defensive crisis, however.
Reminder of the side to start in a 1-2 defeat against Gallants:
Bvuma; Solomons, Kwinika, Cross, Mashiane; Maart, Cele; Du Preez, Shabalala, Lilepo; Duba
Injuries to key central defensive trio Given Msimango, Rushwin Dortley and Inacio Miguel meant that Nabi had a patchwork pair of Zitha Kwinika and Bradley Cross. Dillan Solomons and Happy Mashiane are also hardly a full-back duo to breed much confidence. Meanwhile, utility man Edmilson Dove is sidelined.
Mdu was once a Buccaneer
21-year-old Kaizer Chiefs attacker Mduduzi Shabalala revealed he grew up supporting Orlando Pirates but says now he will “die a Chiefs fan”. The young attacker has become a key operator Chiefs in the 2024-2025 campaign. He’s appeared 25 times in the league, with four goals and an assist.
Kaizer Chiefs outcast Ntwari stars for Rwanda
Rwanda National Team manager Adel Amrouche has confirmed French interest in Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari. When he arrived, the 25-year-old was a regular in the Chiefs first team, but inopportune injuries have pushed him down the pecking order. Ntwari, who came from TS Galaxy in July 2024, has only made seven appearances for Chiefs.
“There is a second division club from France; they also asked me about him,” Amrouche told FARPost.
Do Chiefs need to sign more defenders before splashing on an attacker?
