Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will lock horns this weekend at the FNB Stadium in the second Soweto Derby of the season.
The two teams met in March this year, with the Buccaneers winning 1-0 thanks to a late Patrick Maswanganyi penalty. Saturday’s match will be one of the two derbies to take place in May. The first derby is a Betway Premiership match and the second is a Nedbank Cup final.
When are Kaizer Chiefs playing Orlando Pirates?
The two Soweto giants play the first derby on 3 May at the FNB Stadium. Kick off is for 15:00 and the match will be live on SABC and SuperSport channels.
The next Soweto derby is a week later at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. Having beaten Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup semi-final, Amakhosi now have a chance to end their trophyless run. In their way stand a Pirates side which has won five trophies in their last five finals under Jose Riverio. Out of the two derbies, the Nedbank Cup final is the one everyone is anticipating.
Kaizer Chiefs have lost four straight derbies against Orlando Pirates and are desperate to change that. The Buccaneers are favourites to win the final but Saturday’s derby might end in a draw given both teams will have one eye in the final.
