Jose Riveiro’s tenure ending like Klopp’s last season at Liverpool?

Jose Riveiro‘s last season at Orlando Pirates is very similar to Jurgen Klopp’s at Liverpool.

Klopp won eight trophies with his Reds during his nine years at Anfield. During his last season, the German coach was in contention to win a treble, but only ended up winning the Carabao Cup last season.

Riveiro, on the other hand, started the season positively, topping the Betway Premiership in the early stages and winning the MTN8. Things went sour in 2025 when his side lost ground on Mamelodi Sundowns. Last week, he watched in horror as his team gave away a potential win against Pyramids in the second leg of the CAF Champions League semi-final.

Can Jose Riveiro still win a treble?

Pirates can still secure a domestic treble if they win the Nedbank Cup and the Betway Premiership. For that to happen, they need to win all their remaining matches and hope Downs drops at least four points. The Buccaneers also need to overcome rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the final of the Nedbank Cup.

This means Pirates would need to win their last nine matches of the season, which is highly unlikely. As for Jose Riveiro, he might have a sad or happy ending when his tenure ends in the next few weeks.

On Friday, the Spanish coach admitted that it was a tough pill to swallow after losing to Pyramids.

“Congratulations to Pyramids for going to the final, and congratulations to our players for the fantastic performances they gave for all our fans during the season.

“It has honestly been second to none. We are out of the competition today after losing our first match in the whole tournament. It is a tough one to swallow, to digest. We need a bit of time because I think it is a cruel result.”

Jose Riveiro has won five trophies in three seasons, but from the look of things, he might exit the club with just one cup like Klopp did at Liverpool last season.

Can Riverio win more trophies this season?
