Orlando Pirates’ soon-to-depart manager Jose Riveiro has many clubs vying for his services.
The Spanish native has decided to close his chapter in Soweto after five trophies and three years in Soweto – this tally could rise to seven before the end of the season.
Riveiro’s next trophy opportunity will be the Nedbank Cup final on May 10, and who better to do against than bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs? In the league, Mamelodi Sundowns, lying nine points ahead, are favourites to make it eight successive titles but should be wary of Orlando Pirates’ two games in hand.
Who wants Riveiro?
According to reports, two North African giants – Al Ahly and Wydad Athletic – are jostling for Riveiro’s approval.
Regarding the former, an inside source revealed that, “Al Ahly has put a mouth-watering offer for Jose Riveiro. The coach could be tempted to move to Egypt next season. The deal is highly possible.”
While the Moroccan powerhouses see Riveiro’s as one of best options on the market to replace the outgoing Rulani Mokwena.
Mosimane inbound?
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates are reportedly eyeing former Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane as a priority target. However, the 60-year-old tactitian has denied these claims, saying, “I’ve seen it [links to Pirates], but nobody has spoken to me. We will see.
“And would he consider a return to the Premier Soccer League? “Why not?”, he answered. “It must be for the right project. It must be at the right time.”
