Another rugby star forced to retire due to neck injury

It was confirmed this week that Ruhan Straeuli – the son of former Springbok coach and current Lions CEO Rudolph – has been forced into premature retirement.

Straeuli, who could play at lock or loose forward, was in his fourth season of senior rugby with the Lions, but he played very little this past season as the result of injury.

The 26-year-old has now officially hung up his boots, which comes just a few months after Springbok star Steven Kitshoff also had to retire due to a neck injury.

“Unfortunately, the playing chapter of my rugby career has ended sooner than expected,” Straeuli said in a statement released by the union.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in my career. It has been an absolute privilege to be able to give my all to the city of Joburg.”

The Lions are next in action in the URC this Sunday when they host the Llanelli Scarlets.

THE RETIREMENT OF RUHAN STRAEULI WAS CONFIRMED ON MONDAY
