Cape Town to implement 8-hour water shutdown

The City of Cape Town water and sanitation directorate will temporarily shut down water in parts of the municipality to conduct planned maintenance.

The planned maintenance is scheduled from 9:00 until 17:30 on Wednesday, 30 April.

CAPE TOWN AREAS FACING A TEMPORARY WATER SHUTDOWN

The City of Cape Town said planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Part of Fish Hoek – The water supply to this area will be shut off temporarily from 09:00 until 17:30 on Wednesday, 30 April, to will enable the maintenance team to connect the newly installed pipelines to the existing infrastructure and install control valves on the water supply main to the area.

As a result, Harrington Street, Arthur Wright Road, Carmichael Road, and the surrounding areas, Fish Hoek, and possibly the immediate surrounding streets, will experience no water during this period.

Pinehaven, Welcome Glen, De Gama Park, and the Woodlands area off Dido Valley Road—The City of Cape Town said dam storage levels in the Simon’s Town area are currently very low, necessitating that the Brooklands Water Treatment Plant (WTP) operations be amended accordingly. The Brooklands WTP is only operational from midday Fridays until Monday mornings, with a reduced drinking water production of two mega litres per day.

“Residents in these areas need to urgently reduce their water consumption to ensure that their water supply is sustained and that the local reservoir levels are not compromised,” the metro municipality said.
