BTS’s Jin made a heartwarming surprise appearance at Coldplay’s concert in Seoul on Saturday. This marked his first live performance since completing his military service in June last year.
The moment was a joyous reunion that thrilled fans worldwide, especially the South African ARMY, who have been eagerly awaiting Jin’s return to the stage.
COLDPLAY’S LOVE FOR JIN
Jin took the stage holding a placard that read, “Pick me, please. Can I sing The Astronaut with you?”
When Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin spotted him, he knelt and bowed in a touching gesture of respect, which Jin returned, according to India Today.
Together, they performed Jin’s solo single The Astronaut and the iconic BTS-Coldplay collaboration My Universe. The performance captivated the crowd of 50,000 at the Goyang Sports Complex.
CHRIS MARTIN AND JIN’S BOND
Chris Martin warmly welcomed Jin back, jokingly calling Coldplay the “second-best band in the world” and BTS “maybe number one.”
He added, “We missed you, man, you’ve been in the military, but you still look so handsome. Look at this beautiful man!”
Jin replied with humility and reminisced about their last performance together in Argentina before his military enlistment in 2022.
“Before I went to the military, my last stage was Coldplay’s. Now, my first concert after my discharge is also Coldplay’s,” Jin said. This highlighted the special bond between the two artists.
BTS AND COLDPLAY
The collaboration between BTS and Coldplay began in 2021 with their smash hit My Universe, which topped global charts.
Jin’s solo track The Astronaut, co-written with Chris Martin, followed in 2022.
Their reunion on stage symbolised a full circle moment, celebrated widely on social media with videos and photos going viral.
Coldplay also expressed their gratitude to Jin and the Seoul audience, calling the night “moments we will never forget”.
MILITARY SERVICE
Jin’s return to performing live after military service is a significant milestone, promising exciting new chapters ahead.
As Jin shared on Instagram, “Sunny <3” — a fitting caption for a bright new dawn in his career.
This unforgettable night was a celebration of friendship, resilience, and the joy of music that transcends borders.
BTS AND SOUTH AFRICAN ARMY
South African ARMYS can look forward to Jin’s upcoming solo tour starting in June, a perfect chance to witness his artistry live once again.
In the words of Chris Martin, “It’s all because of you that we have this relationship with BTS.”
Indeed, Jin’s presence on stage rekindled a beautiful musical friendship that continues to inspire fans across the globe.
