The latest official dam level stats for the Western Cape show that cumulatively the six major dams in the province have dipped below 65% of capacity.
The six major dams in the Western Cape – the Berg River, Steenbras Lower, Steenberg Upper, Theewaterskloof, Voelvlei and Wemmershoek – all saw significant increases during last winter.
However, the windy summer months predictably saw levels drop, but heavy rain in the region on Tuesday should see a jump at the next reading.
Down on last year
The City of Cape Town uploaded its latest stats on Monday, 7 April.
The latest figures show the six dams are a combined 63.6% of total storage.
That’s down from the 65.1% the previous week.
The current levels are also down on the same period a year ago when the combined percentage stood at 64.7%.
Theewaterskloof, which accounts for more than 50% of the province’s total dam capacity (480 188 MI of a total of 898 221 MI) is at 64.5% of capacity, while the next biggest dam, Voëlvlei (164 095 MI), is at 61.7%.
