Fleurhof residents will face a complete water outage on Monday, 6 May, from 8:00 until 16:00. Johannesburg Water announced that the interruption is necessary for the tie-in of a new pipe to the existing infrastructure.
All streets in the suburb will be affected, with the city promising that the work will lead to “improved service delivery” and better continuity of water supply.
Johannesburg Water has not yet provided the location of alternative water sources, but assured residents that details will follow shortly.
Johannesburg Water prepares for broader impact
In addition to the Fleurhof project, Rand Water will undertake two primary maintenance operations from 2 May to 16 May, affecting several Johannesburg Water systems. Maintenance on the Palmiet pump station could cause poor pressure or no water in areas across Sandton and Midrand, including the Alexander Park, Randjieslaagte, Linksfield reservoirs, and the Rabie Ridge and Erand reservoirs.
Joburg Water confirmed it would deploy alternative water supplies strategically but cautioned residents to prepare accordingly. “Full recovery of the systems will take several days after maintenance has been completed,” Rand Water added, explaining that reservoirs must rebuild capacity after emptying.
Residents Encouraged to Prepare for the outages
City officials have urged Fleurhof residents, along with others in Johannesburg, to prepare for the outages by storing sufficient water ahead of time. The planned work highlights the city’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure reliability.
Joburg Water reiterated the importance of conservation: “We urge residents to use water sparingly.”
