Kaizer Chiefs coach sends stern warning to his squad

Kaizer Chiefs coach sends stern warning to his squad as the season concludes.

Nasreddine Nabi has issued a clear message to his players. Stay locked in or risk losing momentum. With the highly anticipated back-to-back Soweto Derbies looming, Nabi urged his players to prioritize their next challenge against Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Following their thrilling 2-1 Nedbank Cup semi-final victory over Mamelodi Sundowns, Chiefs appeared off-colour in a lacklustre 0-0 draw against Chippa United. The contrast in performance raised concerns about the team’s mental preparedness.

“We took lessons from this game [against Chippa],” said Nabi as quoted by iDiski Times.

“We even discussed all week about this game that we must be ready and focus on Chippa because it will be difficult.”

Complacency after Sundowns win? Nabi thinks so

Nabi didn’t mince his words when analyzing the team’s post-Sundowns mentality. He admitted that the squad failed to approach the Chippa clash with the same intensity, a mistake they can’t afford to repeat.

“We tried to prepare our players mentally. The smart players if they make one mistake they can’t repeat the same mistake,” he explained.

“Now we understand that if we don’t prepare 100% mentally we can’t win any game.”

Chiefs need a wake-up call before Derby week

Currently sitting in eighth place on the log, Kaizer Chiefs can’t afford any more slip-ups. With the pressure building and expectations sky-high ahead of the Soweto Derby doubleheader, Nabi is drilling one thing into his team: focus on the task at hand.

The clash against Marumo Gallants represents more than just three points, it’s a test of mentality, maturity, and momentum.
