Kaizer Chiefs: Nabi breaks his silence on the project

Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, refuses to let recent setbacks define the club’s vision. Despite a crushing 11th league defeat and a worrying six-game winless streak, Nabi remains firm, the project is still alive and progressing.

Just a few weeks ago, Chiefs were strong contenders for a top-three finish. Now, they find themselves scrambling outside the top eight, a position that threatens their hopes of competing in next season’s MTN8 Cup.

Still, not all hope is lost. Chiefs recently secured a spot in the Nedbank Cup final after a thrilling upset over Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld, a night that briefly rekindled fan optimism.

Double Soweto Derby looms large

The celebrations from Tshwane, however, are beginning to fade. Chiefs now face a critical stretch, hosting rivals Orlando Pirates next weekend before stepping into the domestic cup final.

Recent performances, a shock loss to Gallants and a frustrating 0-0 draw against Chippa United, raised alarms among supporters. But Nabi insists the short-term results won’t derail the club’s bigger mission.

“To convince the fans about the process is not going to depend on one or two games, you understand what I’m saying, you need to be logical, if you talk about a process it’s not the result of one or two games,” Nabi explained.

‘Still on track’: Nabi defends the project

Nabi continues to stress that Chiefs are building something sustainable, not chasing quick fixes.

“It’s not like that to be in line with the process, you agree with me – yes we are still on track, we have evaluation of a four-step process this season. You have the key, you align this process.”

His message is clear. Winning or losing one game doesn’t validate or invalidate the broader plan.

“It’s not about one or two [wins], maybe you get a good result, but it’s not because of winning or losing when you saying the process is right or not.”

Must-win showdown at FNB Stadium

All eyes will turn to FNB Stadium on Saturday, 3rd May at 15:00, when Chiefs lock horns with Orlando Pirates. Victory is non-negotiable if Chiefs hope to salvage their MTN8 Cup ambitions for next season.

The stakes have never been higher, and while fans grow restless, Nabi’s unwavering belief in the project could define the club’s future far beyond this rocky season.
