Kaizer Chiefs set to axe striker in major attack overhaul and to prioritize youth.
Amakhosi are making bold moves to revamp their attack ahead of the new season, and veteran striker Ranga Chivaviro appears to be one of the casualties in the club’s aggressive shake-up.
A source confirms that several Amakhosi players face the axe to create space for new signings. Chiefs plan to strengthen their forward line with fresh firepower, signaling the end of the road for underperforming talents.
Exit looms for Chiefs forward
Chivaviro’s days at Naturena seem numbered. A source close to the situation revealed that the former Marumo Gallants forward will likely leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.
“There is a list of players who are believed to be leaving the club at the end of the season and apparently Ranga Chivaviro is one of them,” the source disclosed. “You remember before the arrival of (Makabi) Lilepo they wanted to extend Ranga’s contract but it seems now that won’t be happening. He is set to leave the club. It’s believed to be the end of the road for him at Chiefs.”
Chivaviro joined the Soweto giants with high expectations, but his time at the club has fallen short. The 32-year-old striker has struggled to make a meaningful impact. Having scored just five goals in 22 appearances across all competitions this season.
Youth and new signings drive Amakhosi strategy
The club is not only eyeing external reinforcements but is also turning inward to promote young prospects from the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) squad. This dual-pronged strategy aims to inject both experience and youthful energy into the team.
“Yes, they are still looking at signing at least one senior experienced striker. But they have also recommended the promotion of the youngsters from the DDC side. And that’s the other reason why Ranga is set to leave the club at the end of his contract in June,” the source added.
New Era at Chiefs begins
Kaizer Chiefs clearly intend to transform their squad with a mix of experienced acquisitions and homegrown talent. Chivaviro’s impending departure marks a significant shift, as the club places its faith in a dynamic new generation to restore its dominance.
As the transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Naturena to see which fresh faces arrive. And who else heads for the exit before the new campaign.
