Kaizer Chiefs will most likely pocket over R3 million for knocking Mamelodi Sundowns out of the Nedbank Cup semi-final.
Amakhosi can still double that amount if they win the final on 10 May against rivals Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Goals from Wandile Duba and Ashley du Preez were enough to give Amakhosi their first win over Masandawana in four years.
How will Kaizer Chiefs pocket over R3 million?
The Nedbank Cup semi-final win over Sundowns means Chiefs have almost certainly secured continental qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup. Downs and Pirates are likely to finish top two, securing CAF Champions League football next season. The winner of the Nedbank Cup automatically enters the CAF CC, meaning even if Chiefs lose against Pirates, they would still qualify for the competition.
With R950 000 guaranteed for teams to qualify for CAF CL and CL, Chiefs will add that on top of the R2.5 million they will be getting for reaching the Nedbank Cup final.
Can Kaizer Chiefs earn more than R3 million?
With R2.5 million guaranteed, Amakhosi can earn more prize money by winning the Nedbank Cup. The winner of the competition gets a whopping R7 million. The last time Amakhosi claimed the Nedbank Cup was back in 2013.
