Former SuperSport United head coach believes Kaizer Chiefs can win a treble if they sign Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele.
The 30-year-old Congolese forward was responsible for knocking Orlando Pirates out of the CAF Champions League this past weekend. He scored two goals to inspire his team to a 3-2 win in the second leg of the CAF CL semi-final.
Speaking to Peter Du Toit on Soccer Beat, Hunt felt the Buccaneers gave the match away after leading twice in the second leg.
“It would have been fanstastic to have two teams. I thought the Pyramids that played Pirates last week at FNB was the better team to be honest. I was really impressed with them,” he said.
Hunt feels Fiston Mayele can win Kaizer Chiefs trophies
“Ja, I agree with you Peter, when you’re in that situation, they were 2-1 up, even when it was 2-2, they still threatened, but obviously they lost it at 3-2. I think the defence and the goalkeeper [why Pirates lost], if they are to get to the next level, they need to improve. They have been conceded set pieces for a while now.
Speaking about Mayele, Hunt felt only two teams could afford the striker, but felt he could help Kaizer Chiefs if he signed for the Soweto giants.
“In the PSL, I think he can be a 30-goal striker, I really do. I think he’ll make goals on his own, by just movement, strength and power. [If he signs for Kaizer Chiefs] they win a treble,” he said.
“There are two teams in the PSL that can afford him,” Hunt added.
In the past year, Kaizer Chiefs have been linked to Mayele. With only a year left in his contract, it might be the perfect time to buy the Congolese star, given Pyramids’ will to sell.
How many goals will Mayele score in the PSL?
