Sunderland hopes to gain promotion to the Premier League. Would two Orlando Pirates players be a good addition to their squad next season?
Black Cats watching Orlando Pirates star duo
Northeast English giants Sunderland, currently scrapping to fight their way back into the Premier League, are keen on two Bucs stars. The ‘Black Cats’ were relegated from the top-flight in 2016-2017. However, they’ve been there and thereabouts in the promotion places from the Championship ever since. They’re currently fourth with four games to play and already guaranteed a semi-final playoff place.
“It’s the same club [Sunderland] interested in another Pirates player, Thalente Mbatha. It’s believed that when the scouts came to look at Mbatha, they were also happy with Mabasa, and they had to assess him further in other games. Apparently, they were happy, and they had enquired about him. So, Sunderland is the club interested in Tshegofatso Mabasa,” SoccerLaduma concluded.
Why Orlando Pirates want to sign Basadien
Left-back has been a problem position for Jose Riveiro. Although Deon Hotto is a super-dependable fan favourite, he’s not getting younger. Also, left full-back isn’t his preferred role. Stellies’ Fawaaz Basadien has made 36 appearances across all competitions. 19 of those have been in the league, with three goals and three assists. Former Chiefs youngster Omega Mdaka, still only 21, has also been heavily involved with 14 appearances across all competitions. If Stellies feel that Basadien wants to leave, they already have a replacement lined up, and he’s in their first XI already. Pirates could take advantage of the player’s apparent desire to move to Soweto.
