ORLANDO PIRATES LEGENDS CALL FOR PITSO MOSIMANE

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro is leaving Soweto at the end of the season. Who should be his successor?

Two of the club’s former players were recently asked to suggest the right man to replace the outgoing Spaniard. The club’s former star – Albert “Bashin” Mahlangu – told Robert Marawa on 947 that Mosimane is the right man. A few days later, Mpho Makola, also a former Orlando Pirates star, said to FARPost that the former Mamelodi Sundowns, Bafana Bafana and Al Ahly coach has the experience and quality to continue where Riveiro left off.

In the meantime, Mosimane has been home in South Africa as a free agent since leaving Esteghlal FC in December 2024. Mosimane, a former Orlando Pirates player in his active days, is the Premier Soccer League’s greatest-ever coach with a record five league titles. Mosimane is also Africa’s greatest tactician, having a record three CAF Champions League titles.

Another former Orlando Pirates coach, Rulani Mokwena, has been linked with the Sea Robbers. The current Wydad Casablanca coach and his agent recently confirmed that Mokwena will be leaving the Moroccan giants at the end of the season.
