The Glamour Boys pulled off a stunning come-from-behind victory over arch rivals Mamelodi Sundowns to book their place in the Nedbank Cup final.
Sundowns took the lead on the stroke of half-time through a superb Teboho Mokoena free-kick. Wandile Duba’s quick thinking however levelled matters for the visitors in the 57th minute.
Ashley Du Preez was then on hand to finish off from close range in the 89th minute, sealing the victory for Kaizer Chiefs.
Kaizer Chiefs coach makes shock revelation regarding three players
According to Nasreddine Nabi, three Kaizer Chiefs players showed incredible character in their last match. The Tunisian tactician revealed that his side were rocked by an injury crisis ahead of their Nedbank Cup semi-final clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.
Edmilson Dove and Thabo Cele both put on fighting performances for the club despite being injured while Zitha Kwinika was named on the bench despite carrying an injury!
“Maybe before the game, we didn’t discuss injured players. But maybe now it’s the time to say before this game we lost Miguel. We were unlucky between Dove and Zitha. All of them they got injury also. Let me say Dove played today with injury. Zitha was also on the bench with injury,” Nabi told reporters following his side’s victory.
“Also, Thabo Cele got injury. All of them they played with injury today. When you see the performance of our players today, you can understand how much they love this team and how much they deserve to be in this team. We did it for the fans to make them happy and to make them proud of us.”
Kaizer Chiefs will now meet fellow Soweto giants Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final. The match is scheduled to take place on 18 May 2025 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
In fact, the Soweto Derby will take place twice within the space of a week. This includes their league fixture on 03 May at the FNB Stadium.
