SuperSport United could lose defender Ime Okon for free come the end of the season following a new twist in negotiations.
Just last week, The South African reported that Okon had agreed a new three-year deal with Matsatsantsa.
And this was confirmed by SuperSport United CEO Stanley Matthews but that appears to be far from the truth.
Now, SABC Sport reports that Okon will, in fact, be a free from July should the two parties not reach agreement.
And this is according to Okon’s agent Glyn Binkin, who also confirmed there is European interest in his client.
Okon previously attracted interest from Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv, and he even went for a trial.
However, Matthews revealed that the 20-year-old defender had decided against moving to Kyiv in the near future.
Perhaps, his decision stems from the ongoing political war between Ukraine and Russia.
Binkin said Okon’s focus right now is to help relegation-threatened SuperSport United to keep their in place in the Betway Premiership.

SUPERSPORT UNITED COULD LOSE IME OKON FOR FREE
“He has not signed a new contract as yet. The club have indicated that they would like to offer him a new contract, but as things stand at the moment he is free as of 30 June 2025,” said Binkin.
“And right now, we are considering all our options in this regard.”
“There’s indeed real interest in the player from good European territories, which we are indeed assessing, but for now he is focused on helping SuperSport remain in the Premier Soccer League,” concluded Binkin.
