Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, like most transfer windows, have their eyes on the same prize: Durban City winger Samkelo Maseko.
“Both clubs have made contact with the player and (have been) referred to Durban City. It’s not clear the length of his contract with Durban City,” a KickOff source revealed.
Maseko, who has seven goals this season, has been instrumental to Durban City’s dominant season, sitting six points clear at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) with promotion all but clinched.
Mosimane is priority
According to reports, Orlando Pirates want Pitso Mosimane to be Jose Riveiro’s successor. The former Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns coach is currently a free agent.
“There are a few coaches to be considered for different reasons, but apparently it’s believed that Pitso [Mosimane] is their preferred candidate,” a source revealed.
“It’s believed that he is their first priority at the moment. That’s what the team wants as things stand. Even if they have not spoken to him (behind the scenes) yet, he is their first priority.
“They are saying if they (Pirates) managed to work with Jose Riveiro for three years, then why can’t they go for a coach like Pitso? So, they know what they are looking for, and they know quality doesn’t come cheap,” the source added.
“But as you know, although he is their first priority, he is not the only one they are looking at. As I said, there are different factors they are looking at.”
