Orlando Pirates have often relied on twenty-year-old Relebohile Mofokeng, who has amassed twenty-three goals and assists this season, including seven in eleven Champions League outings.
The Sharpeville native has been one of the lead protagonists in the Buccaneers quadruple chasing campaign, and it seems everywhere, from North Africa to Europe, has eyes on the Bafana international.
Earlier this year, Egyptian giant Zamalek FC rejected an R25.8 million offer, which is likely to be the first of a flurry of bids.
According to Transfermarkt, Mofokeng market value is R25.6 million, but Orlando Pirates will evidently only entertain figures north of that region.
Mofokeng’s exit imminent?
To the Buccaneer’s dismay, Bafana coach Hugo Broos predicts this to be Mofokeng’s last season in Soweto, telling iDiski Times, “talking about Mofokeng, I just hope that he makes the right decisions. And that he is not going to a team where he won’t play.
“I see all the things around, Barcelona and Rangers and… (sighs) I’m a little bit afraid. I just hope that the people around make the choice of the best sportive solution and not the best financial solution,
“Okay, I think his parents want the best for him, that’s for sure. But there is another guy who wants to win a lot of money also, but that’s the problem. But ok, let’s hope, maybe I talked too soon about that,
“We’ll see. I think in June, Rele will not be a player of Orlando Pirates anymore, but a good choice is very important.”
Will Orlando Pirates survive without Mofokeng?
