Orlando Pirates news: Pitso Mosimane latest; Four players leaving?

After three formidable years, Orlando Pirates will have to navigate life without head coach Jose Riveiro. But first, they’ve got some trophies to chase.

The quadruple-chasing Buccaneers await their semi-final Champions League clash against Pyramids before facing Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final.

In the league, they lie twelve points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with three games in hand, keeping their title hopes alive.

Mosimane in?

According to reports, Orlando Pirates have made former Bafana boss Pitso Mosimane as their priority Jose Riveiro replacement.

“There are a few coaches to be considered for different reasons, but apparently it’s believed that Pitso [Mosimane] is their preferred candidate,” a source revealed.

“It’s believed that he is their first priority at the moment. That’s what the team wants as things stand. Even if they have not spoken to him (behind the scenes) yet, he is their first priority.

“They are saying if they (Pirates) managed to work with Jose Riveiro for three years, then why can’t they go for a coach like Pitso? So, they know what they are looking for, and they know quality doesn’t come cheap,” the source added.

“But as you know, although he is their first priority, he is not the only one they are looking at. As I said, there are different factors they are looking at.”

Four players leaving?

Riveiro could be one of several high-profile figures leaving Orlando Pirates this offseason with Relebohile Mofokeng, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Patrick Maswanganyi and Monnapule Saleng all linked with moves away.
