When is the final?

Chiefs and Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates will contest their ninth meeting in a Nedbank Cup final. The stage is set for kickoff at 15:30 on Saturday, 10 May at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Cautious optimism for Kaizer Chiefs

Of the teams’ eight previous meetings in the Nedbank Cup final, Kaizer Chiefs have won six finals – in 1971, 1976, 1977, 1981, 1984 and 2006. Orlando Pirates have managed two wins in 1975 and 1988. A 75% win ratio is a huge reason for Amakhosi fans to be cautiously optimistic.

Orlando Pirates target FOUR foreign attackers

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates have allegedly opened talks with Pyramids FC striker Fiston Mayele. The Congolese marksman, ironically, sent Pirates out of the Caf Champions League with a brace in the semi-final second leg, which the Egyptian side won 3-2, giving them a 3-2 aggregate triumph after a goalless draw in South Africa. Another attacker on the Pirates shopping list is 26-year-old Brazilian Raphael Lopes, who plies his trade for Maltese side Hamrun Spartans. 23-year-old Zambian marksman Andrew Phiri was on trial with the Buccaneers in April and impressed the club’s technical team. Kwame Opoku from Asante Kotoko is also an option for the Sea Robbers.
