Orlando Pirates to offload star called ‘Iniesta’

Orlando Pirates are set to offload a star called ‘Iniesta’ for next season.

The Bucs are reportedly preparing to send midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja out on loan in a bid to help the young talent gain more game time and grow his career. A source revealed that the decision comes as the technical team seeks to streamline the squad ahead of the new season.

Rasebotja, who previously shone at SuperSport United, has struggled to break into the Buccaneers’ starting lineup. Now, the 23-year-old midfielder may be heading for a temporary move elsewhere to reignite his career.

“The competition in his position is tough and tight and he is not getting game time at the club right now and that’s why both management and the technical team have agreed that they should at least loan him out for next season. That’s the decision they believe could work out for him as a player,” a source revealed.

Pirates eye multiple loan deals

Rasebotja isn’t the only player on the club’s radar for a potential exit. Pirates are currently assessing several squad members for possible loan or permanent transfers, as they gear up for the 2025/2026 season.

Although no clubs have officially shown interest in Rasebotja yet. Pirates plan to explore their options once the season wraps up and a new head coach takes charge. With current coach Jose Riveiro stepping down at the end of the campaign. Many expect significant changes in the squad’s structure.

“They were waiting for the season to finish first. They’re also waiting for the new coach to assess which teams might show interest in him. The club clearly wants to loan him out to ensure he gets game time, and they expect to finalise everything at the start of next season. ,” the source also confirmed.

Who is Rasebotja? ‘Iniesta’ in waiting

Promoted from the SuperSport United academy in the 2020/2021 season under coach Kaitano Tembo. Rasebotja quickly earned the nickname “Iniesta” for his flair and creativity in midfield. These are traits that reminded fans of the Spanish legend himself.

Despite his potential, the talented midfielder has found limited opportunities at Pirates. And has only made a handful of appearances in the Betway Premiership this season. He remains under contract until June 2027. Making a loan move the most strategic option to ensure his growth without permanently parting ways.

With the transfer window approaching and a coaching change looming. All eyes will be on Pirates’ next move and whether Rasebotja’s talent will finally shine elsewhere.
