Pitso links to Pirates: Mosimane opens up

As current Pirates coach Jose Riveiro prepares to step down after this season, the search for his replacement is intensifying, and understandably Pitso Mosimane has been touted as a top option.

The successful former Mamelodi Sundowns coach is currently without a top-flight coaching role, and many have wondered whether he could consider an opportunity with Pirates.

When speaking to the Sowetan during a Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools (PMSS) project, he suggested he had not been in touch with anyone at Pirates, but also didn’t rule out the possibility.

“I’ve seen it (links to Pirates), but nobody has spoken to me. We will see,” Mosimane said.

And would he consider a return to the Premier Soccer League? “Why not?”, he answered. “It must be for the right project. It must be at the right time.”

Pitso Mosimane unlikely to be the frontrunner for Pirates gig

Considering Mosimane’s recent work overseas, it’s expected that his market value may well be beyond what the Buccaneers could offer.

Meanwhile, many believe that another former Sundowns coach, Rulani Mokwena, might be the leading candidate instead.
