Royals across the world pay tribute as Pope Francis passes away

The world watched in mourning as news broke of Pope Francis’s passing at the age of 88. The beloved pontiff died peacefully at the Saint Martha residence in the Vatican on Monday.

Doctors confirmed the cause as a stroke, which led to heart failure.

POPE FRANCIS’ TRIBUTES

The loss sent ripples through royal houses across Europe and beyond, with monarchs and their families expressing heartfelt condolences.

King Charles of Britain led the tributes. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the Pope’s passing. He will be remembered for his compassion and for profoundly touching the lives of so many.”

His words echoed across the Commonwealth, resonating with many who admired the Pope’s global outreach, according to Daily Mail.

BELGIAN ROYALS MOURN POPE FRANCIS

The Belgian royals, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, shared their sorrow on Instagram.

“It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Pope Francis. He was a great man, close to the most humble and concerned about the world’s problems.

We share the grief of all Catholics throughout the world and all those who loved and appreciated him. We also express our gratitude for the honour he bestowed upon us by visiting our country,” they wrote.

MONACO ROYALS SHARE THE GRIEF

Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco, who have met the Pope several times, also shared their grief.

“It is with infinite sadness and deep sorrow that we learned of the death of His Holiness Pope Francis on this Easter Monday.

We keep in mind and in our hearts the apostolic blessings which the Holy Father lavishly bestowed upon us during his Pontificate and fervently pray for the repose of his soul,” Prince Albert said.

SPANISH ROYALS MESSAGE FOR POPE FRANCIS’ PASSING

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain sent a message on behalf of their family, the government, and the Spanish people.

“His Holiness Pope Francis has testified throughout his pontificate to the importance of love of neighbour, brotherhood, and social friendship for the world of our century.

We will always be inspired by his conviction of the need to bring encouragement and comfort to the poorest and most needy,” they stated.

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH MOURNS

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands recalled their personal audience with the Pope in 2017.

“Pope Francis radiated mercy in everything he did. With his deep-rooted faith in God’s love, he was the embodiment of benevolence and humanity,” they said.

South Africans, many of whom share strong ties with the Catholic Church, have joined in mourning.
