SA man carrying cross vows to walk to Israel – here’s why

A South African man’s quest to carry a life-size cross on foot from Cape Town to Israel has left many questioning his sanity.

The man – evangelist Reini Coetzee, who is documenting his journey on TikTok and Instagram – began his journey in the weeks leading up to the Easter weekend.

SA MAN CARRYS CROSS ON FOOT – TO ISRAEL!

In a video that has gone viral online,  the man – now identified as evangelist Reini Coetzee – is seen pushing a life-sized cross on wheels along the side of the road.

The video was taken by a passing driver who questioned the man’s plan.

According to his social media accounts – called Cross Walk Africa – Coetzee departed Cape Town on 14 March. He is hoping to arrive at his destination at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Israel.

In his latest update over the weekend, Coetzee revealed that he was currently walking through the Central Karroo after completing more than 300 hours of walking over three weeks.

A JOURNEY OF FAITH

Evangelist Reini Coetzee has described his trip to Israel as being “a journey of faith.”

A video of the man walking says: “One man, one cross, one mission. But he is not walking alone. God has called him to carry the cro.ss

The man is hoping to “share the gospel, pray for the broken, and remind the world of the greatest sacrifice ever made.”

DISTANCE AND HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO GET THERE

According to a quick Google search, a trip on foot from Cape Town to Israel, located in the Middle East or West Asia, would take over 2000 continuous hours . The distance is measured at a whopping almost 10 000 km journey.

The lengthy route would pass through African countries like Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, and Egypt before reaching Israel. Driving to Israel would cut travel time to around 145 consecutive hours.

Although there is no direct route, a flight from Cape Town International to the country’s capital, Tel Aviv, could be completed in as little as 12 hours.
