The South African Police Service (SAPS) have retrieved the vehicle in which three police constables who had been reported missing, were travelling in.
The Volkswagen Polo was recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion, two days after the bodies of the three police constables were found.
The bodies of constables Keamogetswe Buys, Boipelo Senoge and Cebekhulu Linda were found on Tuesday at the same river located near the N1 highway in Pretoria.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, confirmed that it was the same vehicle that the officers were travelling in as they were able to identify it using the vehicle’s chassis and vehicle identification number (VIN) numbers.
Items found in the car
“Investigations are continuing, and we hope more information as to what happened will come to light,” she said.
A white handbag, a vehicle service book and keys were some of the items found in the car.
This as the constables went missing on Wednesday, 23 April.
Divers from the SAPS and Tshwane emergency services found the vehicle submerged in the river and retrieved it.
This follows the discovery of some parts belonging to the vehicle on Wednesday, 30 April on the N1 near the river, where the bodies were found.
A total five bodies were pulled out of the river, including the body of an admin clerk attached to the Lyttleton police station.
The police believe that the retrieved vehicle will assist in their investigation in determining what exactly led to the deaths of the police officials.
Mathe called on the public to be sensitive and considerate when spreading information about the story.
The officers had been off duty at the time of their disappearance.
