Ryan Coogler’s latest masterpiece, Sinners, has stormed the horror genre and broken records. The supernatural thriller stars Michael B. Jordan in a gripping dual role as twins Smoke and Stack.
Set in 1932 Mississippi during the Jim Crow era, Sinners blends folk horror, southern gothic, and musical elements to tell a haunting tale.
‘SINNERS’ BOX OFFICE VICTORY
The two brothers open a juke joint, only to unwittingly summon a vampire. The film’s unique fusion of genres and its rich cultural backdrop have resonated deeply with most who saw the movie.
Sinners earned a staggering 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes, surpassing Ryan Coogler’s previous hits Black Panther and Creed, which scored 95% each.
The film’s estimated budget of $100 million (approximately R1.9 billion) was well spent, with Sinners debuting to a remarkable $48 million (around R912 million) at the box office in its opening weekend.
This success is particularly impressive given the film’s original story, a rarity in today’s franchise-dominated market, according to The Independent.
