Siya Kolisi to miss out on becoming a Springbok centurion?

Siya Kolisi is eight caps away from becoming a Springbok centurion, but it’s not certain he will achieve the feat this year.

Rassie Erasmus has invited over eighty players to training camps to prepare for the upcoming tests, showcasing the depth at his disposal.

An array of budding talent is emerging, from Cameron Hanekom to Jasper Weise, threatening Kolisi’s chances of putting on the green and gold – the 33-year-old isn’t getting any younger.

However, that’s not to say he has lagged in performances; in fact, he’s been one of Sharks’ most dominant figures since returning from injury last month, scoring a crucial double in their 35-34 victory over Zebre on March 22.

But as the 2027 World Cup edges ever closer, there’s a growing fear that Erasmus may opt for emerging stars, aiming to have them ready by the time they board the plane to Australia.

Kolisi speaks on Springbok future

Following another mighty shift during Sharks’ stunning victory over Ulster last Sunday, the Springbok captain was wary at the competition he faces for the green and gold, saying, “A lot of us are fighting to make the national team.”

After all he’s done for South Africa, it would be a great shame not to see Kolisi reach a hundred caps, solidifying a legendary career. The chances of reaching the feat remain high, but whether he does so this year will be fascinating to find out.
