While Kaizer Chiefs have reached the Nedbank Cup final, Amakhosi have faced difficulties in the league, leading to questions about their consistency and approach to matches. According to Du Preez, the difference in performance between cup and league games lies in the team’s mindset.
DIFFERENT MENTALITY AND INTENSITY
“The difference is definitely our mentality,” Du Preez said via FARPost. “In the league, we sometimes lack the same intensity and focus that we bring to cup matches. The 27-year-old from Stellenbosch added that Kaizer Chiefs need a shift in mentality to achieve consistent results throughout the season.
“We need to balance it. We need to go into each game with the same mentality as a team. If we go in cup games, the way we go in league games, things would go better for us in the league. So, for me, it’s to be consistent as a team.
“We’ve been doing great in the cup. And now with the situation at the club, you know, we want to win silverware. Our main focus is not supposed to be only on cup games. It’s supposed to be in the league [as well].”
Amakhosi and the Sea Robbers will lock horns in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, 10 May, from the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
