It’s been a fairly mild and pleasant autumn so far for Cape Town residents, but the winter months from June and July are always expected to bring much colder and wetter weather along with heavy winds as cold fronts regularly pummel the province.
There is set to be be a real taste of this on Saturday as heavy winds, gusting up to 32 knots are set to hit Cape Town, while there is expected to some rain around for most of the day.
Temperatures won’t plunge too badly, with a high of 16°C, but there will be plenty of cloud cover, as well as tempestuous ocean conditions with wave metres up to nearly five metres.
Conditions will begin to clear on Sunday, but temperatures won’t get much higher than 15°C, and so Capetonians should plan around a weekend of mainly indoor activities.
Cape Town to get the worst of SA weather this weekend
In other hubs around the country, Johannesburg is set for a beautiful weekend of weather with clear skies, minimal wind and warm weather with highs around 22°C.
As is so often the case during this time of the year, Durban weather will be the envy of many as temperatures reach around 27°C on Saturday, but Sunday will see heavy winds gusting up to 32 knots and slightly cooler conditions.
In Port Elizabeth, it will be a pleasant weekend, with temperatures around 22°C and minimal wind for most of Saturday, but Sunday will see that drop to 18°C.
